free clowning workshop for actors
Playful training for actors, performers, and the clown-curious…
Saturday January 17 and Sunday January 18, 10am to 3pm
@ The Spark of Hudson, 502 Union Street, Hudson New York
This workshop is a great opportunity for actors to explore the world of clown, celebrate failure, and embrace idiocy.
Note: We are not circus clowns. We will not be wearing red noses or learning tricks with juggling balls or spinning plates. We will focus on the essence of what makes us funny on stage.
About the Instructors:
Jack and Zoe are American clowns who met while studying at Ecole Philippe Gaulier in France. They create and produce shows together, including A Night of Drama (“Best shows in 2024” — Time Out NY), with sold out performances in New York City and internationally in London and at the Edinburgh Fringe, and Dog Funeral (“A hilariously unconventional take on grief” — Cog Journal), which has performed in London, Ventnor Fringe, and The Berkshires. Jack and Zoe have performed with Underbelly at the Edinburgh Fringe and with London-based companies.

Columbia County Players is a not-for-profit theatre company which brings free performances and programs to the residents of Columbia County and the region at large. By offering new opportunities for those living and working in the Hudson Valley we create integrated theatre audiences as well as diverse casts and crews, all sharing the communal experience of theatre from both sides of the curtain. Our open audition processes and hiring practices rethink traditional theatre norms, considering and cultivating individuals’ potential as well as apparent ability. We believe this ever-evolving process invites egalitarian mutuality and encourages individual expression, exploration and discovery of ourselves together in a pluralistic world.
